Jobs to do in July

  1. Plant out runner bean plants and any veg plants which have not quite made it into the garden.

  2. Keep cutting sweet peas for continuous flowering.

  3. Carry on sawing salad crops, germination should take just a few days.

  4. Prune topiary to keep the sharp shape.

  5. Prune species roses, take out the oldest shoots low down, it will flower on the new singular shoot.

  6. Care for houseplant while on holiday

  7. Water tubs and new plants if dry, but be water-wise

  8. Deadhead bedding plants and repeat-flowering perennials, to ensure continuous flowering then good water after

  9. Pick courgettes before they become marrows and enjoy harvesting fruit and veg.

  10. Give the lawn a quick-acting summer feed, (but don't feed wildflower patches or meadows) and also raise the blade for a lighter cut during the hot months.
