Jobs to do in August

1. Start looking and buying bulbs next spring and Christmas.

2. Take salvia cuttings to ensure you have new plants and are insured against any loss from frost.

3. Keep borders tidy with hand weeding and trimming back exuberant growth.

4. Prune Wisteria

5. Don’t delay summer pruning fruits trained as restricted forms

6. Deadhead flowering plants regularly, they will continue well into Autumn

7. Watering! - particularly containers, and new plants, preferably with grey recycled water or stored rainwater

8. Collect seed from garden plants

9. Harvest sweetcorn and other vegetables as they become ready

10. Continue cutting out old fruited canes on raspberries
