Jobs to do in January.

  1. Disperse worm casts in lawns.

  2. Inspect stored tubers of Dahlia, Begonia and Canna for rot or drying out.

  3. Recycle your Christmas tree by shredding it for mulch.

  4. Start forcing rhubarb.

  5. Plan your vegetable crop rotations for the coming season.

  6. Keep putting out food and water for hungry birds.

  7. Make a polythene shelter for outdoor peaches and nectarines, to protect against peach leaf curl.

  8. Mulch borders with well-rooted organic matter.

  9. Trim off Hellebore leaves, this will show off the flowers and also control leaf spot fungus.

  10. Open vents in the greenhouse to prevent fungal spores on breeze days.
